We have an excellent opportunity for a Multiskilled tradesperson to join our team. You will be carrying out planned and reactive buildings maintenance across all University sites and will receive full training to bring you up to speed on all the systems we operate.

The role does involve working with HVAC so knowledge in this area is desirable, however all trades are encouraged to apply if you have a desire to learn.

About the Role

As a Multiskilled tradesperson, you will carry out reactive repairs and planned small works across all trade disciplines, subject to experience and qualifications, as well as PPM inspections and H&S compliance. Your role will include performing regular checks on HVAC systems, minor electrical and mechanical repairs, and a range of building maintenance tasks—from plastering and painting to basic plumbing and carpentry. Experience in handling general repairs, managing materials, and working with contractors is essential. 

You will be a team player as we are a small team and rely on each other to help out when needed, equally, you will be confident to work under your own supervision. A commitment to safety, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn new skills are key.

You will be travelling between different sites in university vehicles so a clean UK driving licence is essential. 

About You

  • Trade qualification. 
  • Recent maintenance work experience. 
  • H&S systems experience (RAMS, site inductions etc.). 
  • IT literate 
  • H&S training (IPAF, PASMA etc.) 
  • Building management system experience. 
  • Safety systems testing experience.

Additional Information

Salary Grade 5 - Starting from £29,588  rising to £33,002 per annum

The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Special conditions 
  • The post holder will be required to visit all parts of the University’s estate to inspect work carried out and assess needs that arise, this may involve entering roof spaces, cellars and other relatively inaccessible places.  An appropriate level of physical fitness is required. 

  • This post is subject to a basic Disclosure and Barring Service Check. (See Policy Attached)

  • Ideally, you will have a City & Guilds or equivalent in a recognised trade discipline as well as previous experience working in a university, college or other education establishment. 

  • A strong knowledge of H&S and the ability to liaise with contractors, ensuring they are following their RAMS, is desirable.

  • Be able to communicate with stakeholders at all levels and generally, have a positive, can-do attitude.
