Toray Advanced Composites (TAC) is a leading supplier of advanced composite materials for the aerospace, sporting goods, motor sport, and industrial markets. You will find our thermoset composite products on nearly every satellite, space launch vehicle, unmanned aircraft, military, and commercial aircraft in production today. TAC also provides composite materials to industrial and recreational applications including mountain bikes, medical prosthetics, and sports equipment. 

Our thermoplastic prepregs, known in the industry as Cetex, are found in a wide range of commercial and military aircrafts, including large wing structures and interior applications like seats and galleys. Our Cetex products are available in unidirectional tape or fabric form in a variety of engineered thermoplastic resins including PAEK, PEKK, PEEK, PPS, PEI as well as a full line of performance thermoplastics including Nylon, PET, PC/ABS, HDPE, and PP.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:

The Production Technician V/Lead will be an expert on all department production lines which include successfully managing multiple production lines/processes and implementing Toray standards and procedures. Additionally, the lead will oversee the department by training and developing operators where they see fit. The lead would assign new hire(s) and existing employee(s) to trainers or themselves to help develop operators’ skillsets.  The Technician V/Lead will support the trainer by managing the training process and being a point of contact for escalations. The lead will be the back up to the trainer by explaining various processes, demonstrating how to set up the machine(s) and assigning tasks as they see fit. The lead will also be accountable for Toray’s quality standard and processes by overseeing errors and defects for the production lines. Leads should be able to coach and train other operators on defects and hourly checks on the machine and ensure these tasks are done correctly. If the machine(s) aren’t functioning correctly, the lead should be able to troubleshoot any machine and provide insight to engineering and management on generating solutions for machine issues.  MAJOR DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

Operations

  • Main operator for multiple production lines  
  • Set up of machine(s), run the machine(s), catch defects, and errors without supervision
  • (TP) Support mix areas by making mixes with no oversight
  • (TP) Disassemble/assemble equipment, remove/setup equipment, and perform alignment
  • When equipment and production lines have issues, troubleshoot without oversight and provide solutions to engineering and management for complex machine issues
  • Prioritize work and review production schedule to ensure production line is running to meet target deadlines
  • Retrieve work orders traveler and pull in raw material from warehouse
  • Acting supervisor for when management is out of office

Training

  • Support new hires and train/guide them by:
    1. Provide guidance on how to set up and operate machine
    2. Review possible machine issues for new hire to report to trainer
    3. Demonstrate how to check for defects on the production line
    4. Demonstrate hourly checks of the machine
    5. Train and review for understanding on the quality process and identify quality issues
    6. Train on preparation (wrapping and labeling) of the product for processing, loading and unloading product from the equipment
    7. Provide feedback to shift/department supervisors on new hires overall performance
    8. Complete 90-day Performance Review for new hires without bias
    9. Communicate daily with management on overall successes or misses within the department

 Quality:

  • Check for defects on the line
  • Hourly checks of the machine
  • Identify quality issues and responsible for all quality issues on the production line
  • Oversee Production Technician 1, 2, 3 & Trainer to ensure all quality and safety errors are detected

Safety

  • Follow safety procedures for PPE (personal protection equipment)
  • Dispose hazardous waste in proper area
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Oversee Production Technician 1- 4 to ensure safety and house cleaning is met

Other

  • Preparation (wrapping and labeling) of the product for processing, loading and unloading product from the equipment
  • Train and mentor Production Technicians
  • Provide feedback to Supervisor or designee about operators
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee

EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience working with composites or productions department
  • 1 year of trainer experience required
  • 18 month to 2 years of Management experience preferred
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to coach and train operators with assigned tasks
  • Support and manage Production Technicians 1 & 2 & 3 & Trainer
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Math and basic computer skills required
  • Ability to convert grams to pounds
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions for machine operation
  • Must be able to communicate clearly (written and verbally) in English
  • Able to work and communicate as a team and trainer
  • Maintain work areas in a neat, orderly and safe manner
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 55 lbs
  • Must be clean shaven in order to wear PPE/Respirator
  • Excellent attendance: ability to work overtime, weekends and off shifts when needed

 Hourly rate:  $32/hr - $35/hr
