About the Department
This is a interim fulltime position for the current 25/26 school year.
The High School Assistant Principal assists the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff and parents. This includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, counseling, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent, teacher, and child communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents; and managing budget items. The assistant principal acts in the capacity of the principal during the principal’s absence from the school.
Position Duties
This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities.
- Present self and 4J in a professional manner including: in oral and written communication, professional disposition when working with others and maintaining professional dress standards.
- Knowledge of varied instructional strategies, how to support the needs of diverse learners, delivery methods, assessment, and staff development techniques for improvement of instruction.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of, and ability to, develop, monitor, and evaluate curriculum, discipline plans, and supervision/safety plans.
- Knowledge and understanding of adolescent physical, emotional, and intellectual development, effective behavior management techniques and de-escalation SEL strategies.
- Ability to effectively communicate, disseminate, and effectuate verbal or written communication and directives to a diverse group of administrators, staff, and the broader district community.
- Maintain a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and dependability and maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA and adherence to the competent and ethical educator practices.
- Promotion of equity and diversity in all settings and processes, and a commitment to anti-racists principles.
- Know and maintain compliance with state and federal laws governing all aspects of the building and District including the following: ORS, OAR, IDEA, FOIA, and CIPA.
- Exceptional prioritization of tasks, timely completion of work assignments, ability to take the initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates respectful, flexible and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation, communication and active participation.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.
- Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.
- Ability to lift, carry at least 25 pounds and/or the ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.
- Experience with accessing, organizing and presenting data in a meaningful manner
- Experience using data to inform systems and instruction

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered qualified as determined by Human Resources.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or university
- Possess an Oregon administrator license.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience, plus 3 years related administrative experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree
- Experience in supervision and administration.
- Experience conducting group facilitation and process management.
- Qualify for a Standard First Aid and CPR certificate.
