ENTRY SALARY: $53,662.44 
 
Under limited direction, the Parks Service Supervisor I oversees, supervises, leads, directs, and ensures the quality of maintenance and repair for the City’s Parks, playgrounds, and other public amenities. Monitors contracts, maintains consistent communication, and evaluates quality of work.

Position Duties

Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervises, oversees, and schedules the work of all Park Service Technicians; prioritizes job importance, communicates pertinent information to job crews, facilitates proper equipment usage, and coordinating job crews in the event of an emergent scheduling change.
  • Performs extensive administrative duties for the department; purchases card receipts, creates purchase orders, contacts vendors, monitors inventory, performs inspections, and manages staff direction and teamwork; prepares schedules for parks maintenance, communicates special maintenance requests, and addresses safety concerns.
  • Delegates, assigns, and supervises crews in the field performing tasks on specific job sites; provides direction, guidance, and training; manages payroll and time cards for all personnel and evaluates for accuracy; provides performance review and feedback.
  • Leads, directs, oversees, and supervises the various contracts providing landscape, fountain, tree, and pressure washing services for the City; monitors the bid process, tracks all billing, BPOs and invoices, and maintains constant communication with all contractors to ensure quality and timely performance of tasks; orders inventories and keeps control of supplies.
  • Oversees and monitors the servicing of landscaped areas of the parks and recreation department; ensures mowing, trimming, weeding, and assisting with irrigation; assists with irrigation service and repair, chemical applications, and other landscaping tasks.
  • Performs and oversees the general maintenance in relation to grounds, facility, and park amenities; services, cleans, and monitors the condition of the public restrooms within the parks department and facilities.
  • Tracks, monitors, and keeps records of all trucks, mowers, trailers, and small equipment; creates documents and equipment checklists submits and schedules equipment for service and repairs as needed. 
  • Performs tasks involving the use of hand tools, power tools and equipment, and the operation of City vehicles such as pickup trucks and small dump trucks.  
  • Keeps informed on the latest information, equipment, and standards relating to CDL endorsements, Confined Space, Blood Borne Pathogens, Lock Out Tag Out, Right to Know, PPE, Job Site Hazards, OSHA standards, and safety and equipment usage.   
  • Advises and provides information to employees regarding programs, policies, and procedures related to the various training issues and concerns; coordinates with other departments on various means of training
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver’s license is required.
 
Employee designated to the "training" supervisor will need to meet the following additional job specific requirements:  Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Certified Playground Safety Inspector Certification, FNGLA Horticulture Professional Certification, and Certified Inspector of Erosion & Control Certification (CPESC) within two (2) years based on area of assignment.  Ability to obtain and maintain a M.O.T. Certification, and CPR/AED Certification within one (1) year based on area of assignment.
 
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma, G.E.D. Certificate PLUS three to four (3-4) years experience as a laborer in the care and maintenance of parks or other similar grounds and one (1) year of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
