A Day in the Life as a Head Start Assistant Teacher:
As the Social Emotional and Behavior Support Coach, you’ll play an essential role in coaching staff throughout their implementation of behavior intervention strategies and intentional teaching practices that align with Pyramid Model Practices. The Social Emotional and Behavior Support Coach plays an essential role in the coordination of behavior support meetings and implementation of Behavior Support plans. Your day will involve:
- Assists teaching staff with the implementation of the Pyramid Model framework with fidelity.
- Provide training and technical assistance in conjunction with the Mental Health Consultant, to all program staff on the implementation of behavioral intervention strategies and Pyramid Model Practices.
- Utilizing the coaching model, provide support and instruction to staff to strengthen social-emotional development through activities in the classroom and guide staff members to include intentional teaching practices to help with specific child behaviors.
- Coordinates and facilitates all behavior support meetings and completes related documentation. Ensures timely follow-up for children referred for behavioral support and works directly with teaching staff to implement Individual Behavior Support Plans.

Requirements
Qualifications to Be a Social Emotional and Behavior Support Coach:
To excel in this role, you’ll need:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field required; completion of the Practice-Based Coaching Training Institute; training/coursework in Adult Learning Principles preferred
- Experience: Previous experience working in an early childhood classroom, knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards
- Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively communicate with team members, young children and their families, and ability to relate comfortably to income-eligible families.
- Characteristics: Attention to detail, confidentiality, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive workplace and early childhood classroom experience.
- Technical: successful completion of criminal record check, CPR/First Aid certification
A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required for occasional travel between program locations.
