Advanced Server Engineer presso Makpar

The Position:Makpar has an exciting opportunity for a Advanced Server Engineer to join our growing team. The Advanced Server Engineer will provide support for an Agency (Police “Department”) of approximately 3,200 users. The Advanced Server Engineer is experienced in designing, implementing, and maintaining complex server infrastructure, including cloud and virtualized environments. Key responsibilities include managing system performance, ensuring security and compliance, creating high availability and disaster recovery solutions, and automating tasks. The Advanced Server Engineer requires deep technical expertise, extensive experience, and strong problem-solving and leadership skills. The Advanced Server Engineer duties and technical capabilities shall include experience with server virtualization and related technologies. 

Role Specific Duties/ Role Responsibilities:

Design and implementation: Lead the design, documentation, and implementation of complex server solutions, including clustering, replication, and disaster recovery.

Performance and optimization: Conduct advanced system analysis, monitor performance, and implement solutions to optimize server efficiency.

Security and compliance: Establish and enforce security policies, conduct audits, manage access privileges, and ensure all systems comply with licensing and regulations.

Maintenance and support: Manage the installation, configuration, and maintenance of server hardware and software, and provide senior-level technical support.

Automation and scripting: Lead automation initiatives and use scripting languages like PowerShell to streamline tasks.

Virtualization and cloud: Manage and maintain both virtualized and cloud-based server environments, including experience with platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.

Backup and disaster recovery: Implement and manage comprehensive data backup and disaster recovery strategies.

Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers, ensure knowledge transfer, and provide expert consultation.

The Advanced Server Engineer is required to be onsite at the Fairchild Building in downtown Washington, DC three (3) days per week. 

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

Extensive experience (8+ years) in enterprise server infrastructure design and support.

Deep knowledge of server operating systems, hardware, virtualization, and cloud platforms.

Expertise in a variety of tools and technologies, such as Active Directory, PowerShell, and monitoring tools like Prometheus or Grafana.

Possess base-level certification, such as CompTIA Server +, A+, Security+, and Network+

Possess one or more Core certification (s) within their functional area, such as Microsoft, VMware and / or RedHat

Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills

Additional Requirements as per contract/client (Optional or Preferred):

Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident (Green Card status) for 3 years and be Federal Tax compliant.

Knowledge of operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, UNIX).

Experience with scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, Perl).

Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure).

Understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP, IP).

Proficiency with version-control systems (e.g., Git).

Communication: Ability to clearly explain technical information to both technical and non-

Attention to Detail: Minimizing errors and ensuring accuracy in system design and implementation.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder briefings, technical documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
