UHS is a coeducational independent day school in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights, serving 515 students in grades 9–12. We believe athletics are an essential part of education and a powerful place to learn teamwork, resilience, leadership, and purpose larger than the self.

About the Role

As the JV Head Coach, you lead the day-to-day of our JV team and play a key role in the overall program. You’ll collaborate with the Varsity Head Coach to align systems, language, and culture so athletes can grow through the program.

What You’ll Do

  • Coach games with solid preparation, clear roles, in-game adjustments, and calm, constructive communication.
  • Build a positive team culture that centers effort, respect, accountability, and joy in the game.
  • Develop players by giving direct, specific feedback and supporting growth in skill, IQ, and confidence.
  • Collaborate with the Varsity Head Coach, assistants, athletic trainers, and strength staff to support athlete well-being.
  • Communicate proactively with the Athletic Department and families about schedules, expectations, and player development.
  • Model sportsmanship and uphold UHS values in all interactions.
  • Ensure compliance and safety with BCL, NCS, NFHS rules, and school policies; maintain a safe training environment.
  • Support academics by honoring school commitments and helping athletes manage time and responsibilities.
  • Manage logistics such as attendance, uniforms, game film, and travel details in partnership with the Athletics office.

  • Clear communicator. Builds trust with teenagers, gives actionable feedback, and partners well with families and colleagues.
  • Role model. Demonstrates integrity, humility, reliability, and respect for all participants.
  • Organized and prepared. Plans sessions, manages time, and follows through on details.
  • Certified or willing to certify. Current CPR/First Aid and CIF coaching certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
