About the Role:
The Behavioral Health Technician plays a critical role in supporting individuals with serious emotional disturbances (SED) by providing compassionate and effective care within a structured clinical environment. This position focuses on assisting patients through crisis intervention, conducting clinical assessments, and implementing individualized discharge plans to promote recovery and stability. The technician collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure continuity of care. By actively engaging in patient care, the role contributes to improving mental health outcomes and enhancing the overall quality of life for clients. Ultimately, the Behavioral Health Technician serves as a vital link between patients, families, and healthcare providers at Cornerstone- Stepping Stones, fostering a safe and therapeutic environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in a related field preferred.
- Certification or training in crisis intervention and behavioral health support.
- Experience working with individuals with serious emotional disturbances (SED) or in a mental health setting.
- Ability to maintain detailed clinical documentation and follow established protocols.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with patients and healthcare teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, nursing, or a related health care field.
- CPRS (Certified Peer Recovery Specialist)
- Previous experience in discharge planning and care coordination.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Additional certifications such as CPR, First Aid, or Mental Health First Aid.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment within behavioral health services.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct clinical assessments to evaluate patient needs and progress.
- Provide direct patient care and support during crisis situations using established intervention techniques.
- Maintain thorough and accurate clinical documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Assist in developing and implementing individualized discharge plans to ensure smooth transitions.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to monitor patient status and adjust care plans accordingly.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to treatment planning and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure a safe and supportive environment for patients by adhering to facility policies and procedures.
Skills:
The required skills such as clinical documentation and crisis management are essential for accurately recording patient information and responding effectively during emergencies. Clinical assessments and mental health knowledge enable the technician to evaluate patient conditions and contribute to individualized care plans. Crisis intervention skills are applied daily to de-escalate situations and provide immediate support to patients experiencing emotional distress. Maintaining documentation and discharge planning skills ensure continuity of care and compliance with healthcare standards. Preferred skills like familiarity with EHR systems and multidisciplinary collaboration enhance efficiency and improve patient outcomes by facilitating seamless communication and coordinated care.
