Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Process Safety Engineering Intern / Co-op to support our corporate Process Safety Engineering team. This role offers hands-on experience in the chemical manufacturing industry and an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by improving how critical Process Safety Information (PSI) is organized, digitized, and managed across multiple production sites.
The successful candidate will work closely with experienced process safety and engineering professionals to identify, collect, and structure PSI—including P&IDs, equipment design data, process descriptions, and safety documentation—to support compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist to develop and implement key element gap assessments related to Process Safety Management.
- Identify, organize, and digitize Process Safety Information (PSI) across multiple manufacturing locations.
- Collaborate with site engineers and process safety professionals to ensure PSI is accurate, complete, and standardized.
- Review and catalog process documentation such as P&IDs, equipment data sheets, relief system design information, and process flow diagrams.
- Assist in developing digital systems or databases for improved PSI accessibility and traceability.
- Support continuous improvement efforts within the company’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
- Participate in site visits to gain firsthand understanding of manufacturing operations and process equipment.
- Prepare summary reports and presentations for project updates and leadership reviews.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Fundamental understanding of unit operations and common chemical manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint); familiarity with data management or document control systems a plus.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills; comfortable working with both office and plant personnel.
- Willingness to travel up to 40% to various company sites.
