ROLE & TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Structural Designers at HED are responsible for performing structural design and/or engineering duties as directed by the project Discipline Team Leader. 
  • Structural Designers work in collaboration with our in-house A/E team, including the Project Manager and the Project Architect, to create and deliver Positive Impact for our clients, colleagues, and community.

Typical duties may include:

  • Supporting the structural design and documentation efforts, including producing drawings, calculations, and specifications and the production of material, product, and code-required research to support project development.
  • Document interpretation and submittal reviews during bidding and construction administration. 
  • Attend project meetings in support of Discipline Team Leader when requested. 
  • Perform other project-related tasks as assigned by the Discipline Team Leader.
  • Perform other structural design duties as delegated by the supervisor. 
  • Interfacing with design team members from other Disciplines. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Two years of technical design experience in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience with California PreK-12 (DSA) and Healthcare (HCAI/OSHPD) preferred. 
  • Professional Licensure – EIT required. 
  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in Civil/Structural or Architectural Engineering required.  
  • Working knowledge of structural engineering design services from schematic design through project close-out, including design and technical expertise. 
  • LEED Accreditation preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of the coordination aspects and related requirements of related design disciplines (Architectural, MEP, Civil, etc).
  • Familiarity with ETABS, RAM, RISA, and other structural analysis software.
  • Highly organized, with strong written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Strong Revit skills preferred.
  • Very detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible.  

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS  

  • Capable of occasionally traveling to and from project sites across the US attending client, project, and construction meetings.  
  • Ability to access existing and new project sites for observation, investigation, and evaluation purposes.  
  • Ability to use office equipment for communication and documentation purposes.  
  • Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
