REGIONAL SEAFOOD MERCHANDISER

 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Retail, effectively manage the merchandising efforts of a large territory for retail chain seafood accounts.  Educate and train seafood department crew members in presentation of product as directed by the corporate office, and the laws, regulations and company procedures regarding care of seafood products to always ensure the highest quality seafood. Conduct Train the Trainer sessions of crew members to set eye appealing seafood displays to ensure customer confidence in purchasing fresh, quality seafood.  Train crew members to demonstrate successful customer service techniques such as suggestive selling, preparation suggestions, and knowledge of seafood.  Assist in the organization of seafood department grand openings of new or remodeled stores.  Conduct scheduled store visits and maintain communication for a large territory of responsibility.

DUTIES: 

1.       Manage the schedule to effectively assist in organizing seafood departments for new and remodeled stores and/or special promotions, including training new crew members, setting up new display cases, ordering seafood for grand opening, and working with crew during grand opening week.

 

2.       Maintain continual communication with the organization and set/organize schedule to ensure frequent visits are conducted.

 

3.       Develop and conduct training material to train and educate crew members on all aspects of seafood sales, including customer service, suggestive selling, presentation of an attractive display, care of seafood for quality and freshness, and ideas for preparation and cooking seafood dishes.

 

4.       Coordinate the roll out new point of sale merchandising items based on the established schedules.

 

5.       Keeping up to date on trends and seasonal happenings in the seafood business through company market reports, seafood business magazines, and internet to be able to answer questions and address problems in the seafood departments.  Provide direction and material to SMS Marketing team for marketing development ideas.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

Experience:  At least three years experience in a supervisory role within the seafood business, preferably in a retail environment. 

Skills & Abilities:  Excellent organizational skills.  Ability to effectively manage, train and interact with all levels of a diverse organization.  Oral/written communication skills including the ability to write clear and effective correspondence and other materials.  Political acumen, tact, discretion, and judgment.  Demonstrated ability to produce results, working in committees and teams.  Attention to detail.  Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, and creativity in problem solving.  Ability to work independently, set priorities, research and resolve problems and follow-through on projects/assignments with minimal direction.
