La Cañada Flintridge is home of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Descanso Gardens. The professional residents of La Cañada are attracted to the city because of its excellent schools and its strong community spirit. Parent participation and involvement in the schools are extensive as evidenced by a robust La Cañada Educational Foundation, which contributes over $2 million annually to the district, the active volunteerism and program support of the PTA at each school site, and the Spartan Boosters at LCHS grades 7-12. Approximately 95% of graduating seniors enroll in post-secondary schools, with students attending their best fit colleges and universities across the nation. All of our schools have been named National Blue Ribbon schools, with Palm Crest and Paradise Canyon Elementary Schools recognized in 2021. La Cañada High School 7/8 was named a National Forum “School to Watch” school four times, most recently in 2023. All LCUSD schools have been designated as California Distinguished Schools, with its three elementary schools recognized again in 2023.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of a district office administrator, the district registrar performs a variety of specialized and complex clerical work, and maintains records and files pertaining to student registration and enrollment.

Requirements / Qualifications

Qualifications: 1. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of clerical experience, preferably in a school setting. Working knowledge of computers, data input and word processing is required. 2. Education: Graduation from high school, supplemented by college-level course work in business administration, statistics or related field. Any other combination of education, training and/or experience, which demonstrates that the applicant is likely to possess the required skills, knowledge, and abilities, may be considered. The salary range is $33,543 to $42,772, which corresponds to $2,795.26 to $3,564.37 per month, or $23.46 to $29.91 per hour.

Comments and Other Information

Work Calendar: 5.5 hours per day, Monday – Friday, twelve months. Additional work hours may be required during student registration and enrollment season. The chosen candidate will be asked to start immediately in the position, once clearances from a fingerprinting background check and tuberculosis assessment are confirmed. Some training time may be required prior to starting. New classified employees must pass a six-month probationary period to become permanent employees of the District. Current employees must pass a six-month probationary period in a new position when the new position is a permanent assignment in a higher classification. Salary: Placement on classified salary range 29 is dependent on experience as a registrar in similar educational settings. At 5.5 hours per day, the annual salary ranges from $33,543 to $42,772, which corresponds to $2,795.26 to $3,564.37 per month, or $23.46 to $29.91 per hour. The monthly salary is disbursed in two paychecks, on the 10th and 25th of the month. Benefits: An excellent benefits package is offered to employees who work 50% or more of a full-time position, with the District contributing up to $20,406 per year per employee. The District’s contribution is pro-rated based on the employee’s full-time equivalent (FTE) percentage. This position has an FTE of 0.6875 (68.75% of a full-time position), such that the employee would pay the full employee premium plus the remaining 31.25% of the employer premium. Eligible employees hired after August 1, 2025 may be assessed a late start payment in order to bring the new hire into compliance with the premium payment schedule.
