STUDENT ASSISTANT EMPLOYEE JOB DESCRIPTION  

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Pride Center Manager, the Student Event Assistant is responsible for planning, coordinating, promoting, executing, and evaluating Pride Center events for LGBTQIA2S+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Two-Spirited) students, faculty, staff, and allies at CSUN.

 

JOB DUTIES

·         Assists in planning, promoting, and executing Pride Center events which may include lectures, student panels, movie nights, information tabling, educational workshops, social events, and multi-faceted events such as Queer Prom, Trans Days of Empowerment & Remembrance, Rainbow Graduation, etc.

·         Prepares and distributes detailed timelines and staffing plans prior to events

·         Solicits quotes from and negotiates with vendors for event-related services and rentals

·         Generates reports, contracts, correspondence to vendors and contractors; follows-up as required

·         Coordinates and co-design event assessments, including surveys and evaluations to Pride Center event participants

·         Develops and tracks event budgets

·         Coordinates event marketing plans with the University Student Union (USU) Strategic Marketing & Communications Department

·         Coordinates room reservations, layouts and other event needs with the USU Reservations and Event Services department

·         Develops and/or supports partnerships and professional working relationships with USU staff, students, volunteers, university departments, faculty and clubs and organizations with an intent to collaborate as partners.

·         Provides excellent customer service by greeting guest and creating a welcoming environment in the Pride Center

·         Conducts customer and building counts

·         Performs a variety of general office tasks including simple to complex typing, filing, faxing, photocopying, scanning documents, and developing and maintaining office systems

·         Attends departmental staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with Pride Center Manager

·         Performs other related duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

·         Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student

EXPERIENCE

·         Previous related experience and/or specialized education preferred

Experience volunteering and/or working with LGBTQIA+ students preferred

OTHER 

·         Valid driver’s license and auto insurance preferred

·         Ability to be detailed oriented, self-motivated, and possess initiative

·         Ability or ability to learn verbal and written communication skills

·         Establish or learn to establish computer skills e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Asana

·         Establish or learn to establish customer service skills

·         Ability or ability to learn to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively and work productively without close supervision

·         Ability or ability to learn to work independently and as part of a cohesive team

·         Ability to accept and respond appropriately to constructive feedback

SUPERVISION

Supervision is provided by the Pride Center Manager

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled office environment. Work is occasionally performed outdoors, in different climactic conditions. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. In addition to regularly assigned work schedule Monday-Friday, must possess an ability and willingness to work some weekends, academic interim, and break periods as needed; must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.
