Key Responsibilities:
- Meal Preparation and Cooking:
- Prepare and cook meals according to the menu and dietary guidelines.
- Adjust recipes as needed to accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and preferences.
- Food Safety and Sanitation:
- Follow proper food handling and storage protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, appliances, and equipment.
- Adhere to health department standards and facility policies.
- Menu Management:
- Assist in planning and updating menus in collaboration with the dietary manager.
- Ensure portion control and minimize food waste.
- Inventory and Supplies:
- Monitor food supplies and notify the manager of replenishment needs.
- Ensure ingredients are fresh and of high quality.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with dietary aides and other staff to ensure smooth service.
- Communicate with nursing staff or dietitians regarding specific resident dietary needs.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience as a cook in a healthcare, hospitality, or similar setting preferred.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of dietary requirements, including special diets (e.g., low sodium, diabetic).
- Strong culinary and knife skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a hot, fast-paced environment.
