About the Role

As a Jewellery Product Assessor, you’ll play a key role in assessing, sorting, and preparing fine jewellery and precious metals for auction and sale. This role is ideal for someone with retail jewellery experience (e.g., Pandora, high-street jewellers), bench jewellers, or those with expertise in fine jewellery and auction processes who want to expand their skills and knowledge in the luxury and vintage market.

You’ll be entrusted with tasks such as breaking down jewellery, identifying and cataloguing valuable pieces, and ensuring secure preparation and documentation of stock for auction. Working closely with teammates, you’ll contribute to shared goals while honing your expertise in the field.

  • Learn jewellery breakdown techniques by understanding processes for breaking down jewellery and carefully removing gemstones.
  • Confidently identify and test gold, fine jewellery, and other metals’ purity.
  • Assist in quality-checking solid gold for secure bagging.
Making an Impact…
  • Actively contribute to record-keeping and process optimisation related to fine jewellery and auction preparation.
  • Manage workload independently, prioritising tasks efficiently.
  • Collaborate on departmental KPIs and suggest innovative enhancements.
Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and catalogue high-value jewellery, identifying fine, antique, and collectible pieces with accuracy.
  • Sort and break down jewellery into solid gold scrap, carefully removing gemstones and non-gold components.
  • Identify metal purity and distinguish between carats using visual inspection and XRF testing (training provided).
  • Prepare and weigh solid gold for secure storage, adhering strictly to security protocols.
  • Create curated lots of fine jewellery to meet KPIs, producing detailed and accurate descriptions using internal tools.
  • Record weights, figures, and stock information meticulously.
  • Quality-check items for accuracy and compliance with all security standards.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Previous experience in retail jewellery settings (e.g. high-street jewellers), bench jewellers, or involvement in fine jewellery and auction processes is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with vintage, antique, and fine jewellery, including hallmarks, carats, and metal purity.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to handle valuable items with precision and care.
  • Comfortable working with figures, weights, and Excel-based tracking systems.
  • Familiarity with vintage and antique jewellery is desirable, though not essential.
  • Experience with security protocols for high-value stock is a plus.
