POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Finance is responsible for the financial leadership of We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort and other Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation enterprises. This role oversees administrative, financial, and risk management operations, including developing financial strategy, establishing performance metrics, and implementing control systems to protect assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting. Under the general supervision of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation Enterprise General Manager, this position also provides strategic financial support across all tribally owned enterprises.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Delivers exceptional service to internal and external guests in alignment with the We-Ko-Pa Way Service Standards; ensures team compliance with these expectations.

    Provides financial oversight for all Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation enterprises, including We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort, We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, Yavapai Materials, Eagle View RV Resort, Ba’ja Gas Station, and the Tribal Farm.

    Manages the Finance Department at We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort, including functions related to cage operations, casino revenue, drop team, accounting, compliance, and asset tracking.

    Leads the resolution of accounting and financial issues in a timely and effective manner.

    Prepares and manages annual budgets and financial forecasts.

    Reviews monthly and annual financial reports for accuracy, efficiency, and timely distribution, while ensuring the protection of company assets through sound financial oversight.

    Conducts financial statement analysis and ensures all reporting is clear, complete, and accurate.

    Evaluates financial systems, internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures; partners with executive leadership to enhance efficiency and financial performance.

    Oversees the preparation and delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, forecasts, and reporting packages for executive review.

    Leads all internal and external audit processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and implementation of recommendations.

    Develops and enforces policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and maintain financial integrity.

    Oversees financial departments, including Purchasing, the Controller’s office, financial analysis, cage, compliance,  and count operations.

    Negotiates and manages agreements for financial services and vendor relationships.

    Manages banking activities, including compliance with loan agreements and financial reporting requirements.

    Oversees cash management processes to maintain optimal financial positioning, ensuring efficient management of expenditures and cash flow.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Extensive knowledge of financial management, budgeting, administration, and supervision.

    Strong understanding of multi-entity budgeting and reporting.

    Expertise in GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

    Familiarity with Tribal, State, and Federal financial regulations and policies.

    Knowledge of procurement, contract administration, and risk management practices.

    Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills.

    Proficient in accounting and gaming software applications.

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders, including subordinates, leadership, Tribal Council, vendors, and the public.

    Experience with gaming operations and marketing analytics.

    Must obtain and maintain a valid State/Tribal Gaming License (background check required).

    Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field required; MBA preferred.

    CPA designation strongly preferred, or equivalent experience.

    Minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience as a Finance Director within a casino environment.

    Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, capital projects, insurance, budgeting, policy development, internal audit, and external audit coordination.

INDIAN PREFERENCE:

Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are members of federally recognized Native American tribes. To be considered for Indian Preference, applicants must submit a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) or Tribal ID with their application.
