Job Summary

Join the ConocoPhillips Australia HR team in the position of Payroll and HR Data Specialist.

Position Overview

ConocoPhillips’ Australian headquarters are located in Brisbane. Our focus is supplying Australian customers with natural gas and international customers with liquefied natural gas. We do this through our 47.5 percent interest in the Australia Pacific LNG joint venture, one of the largest producers of natural gas in eastern Australia. ConocoPhillips Australia also operates the Australia Pacific LNG liquefied natural gas facility near Gladstone. We are also an exploration company, with ongoing exploration occurring in the Bowen and Surat Basin in Central Queensland and new exploration in the Otway Basin along the southern coast of Australia to identify natural gas reserves for supply to Australian customers.

The Payroll and HR Data Specialist is responsible for leading the delivery of accurate and compliant payroll services across the ABU, in alignment with Australian payroll legislation and standards. This role also manages the administration of compensation and benefits programs in collaboration with the global compensation and benefits team, including payroll and benefits activities related to expatriate and inpatriate employee management, ensuring consistency with internal policies and international requirements. The Payroll and HR Data Specialist will be supported by a Payroll Officer located in the team in Brisbane and will connect with our global centre of excellence based in the US.

Additionally, the role ensures the integrity of HR data within HR systems and provides reporting as required to meet internal and external reporting needs.

Key Accountabilities

  • Payroll interface with third party payroll technology provider ADP to ensure accurate provision of payroll services and timely issue resolution, and local compliance requirements.

  • Preparation of all monthly and end of financial year related reporting related to payroll and benefits (e.g. shareplan, health insurance, inpatriate taxes).

  • HR data and reporting services, including personnel transaction support in Workday in partnership with HR Business Partner and other team members.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders in the BU and Centres of Excellence (COE) to develop, implement, and maintain HR programs, manage local third-party interface and relationships.

  • Other HR generalist activities in support of overall HR programs and administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle complex payroll matters such as termination, redundancy calculations, leave entitlements, and workers compensation claims.

  • Administration of benefits programs including wellness subsidy, salary continuance, salary sacrificing, private health and employee share plan including tender and vendor management.

  • Maintain HR data integrity and support reporting through the Workday payroll and employee compensation and benefits system.

  • Assist with internal and external audits.

  • Reconciliation of payroll reports, leave entitlements.

  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations such as superannuation, PAYG, payroll tax and other deductions.

  • Create and manage data reports, and templates to fully leverage system capabilities to deliver on HR data and reporting requirements.

  • Overarching employee and organisation transaction changes in Workday in partnership with HR Business Partner.

  • Key interface with ABU Finance and HR Business Partners for annual salary and wages budget data requests.

  • Annual reporting including Workplace Gender Equality Agency, annual Fringe Benefit and other payroll related data, as well as ad hoc HR data reporting and analytics.

  • Monitor and apply ongoing best practices in payroll operations, staying up to date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.

  • Benchmark payroll and benefits practices against peer companies and emerging trends to support continuous improvement and strategic alignment.

  • Governance of internal HR function DRM, SharePoint, and systems security provisions.

You will bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business, Accounting or related field.

  • Extensive (7+ years) payroll experience, including in a large/global organization or transferable experience working within regulations, data and compliance.

  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems, preferably Workday, SAP or similar platforms.

  • Strong proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools.

  • Knowledge of data privacy and security standards related to financial, payroll and employee information.

  • Uncompromising integrity, exercising the highest level of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive employee data, payroll information and organizational records.

  • Demonstrated high level of attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply employment legislation, awards and policies.

  • Exposure to benchmarking and trend analysis in payroll and benefits.

  • Demonstrated ability to service customers across all levels of an organisation.

  • High level of discretion, flexibility, adaptability, and resilience to lead and deal with change.

  • Workday system experience (preferred).

  • Experience managing complex payroll scenarios, such as expatriate/inpatriate arrangements, salary packaging and terminations (preferred).
