Overview:
We are currently seeking a computer science engineer with interest and demonstrable skills in software engineering or similar, to support our technology team.
As part of the technology and deliveries team, a Software Engineer, is responsible for developing software programs or systems that align with user needs. Their duties include meeting with stakeholders or business professionals to strategize ideas for beneficial software, coordinating with other IT professionals to design software and running tests to catch coding errors.
Technology to work with may vary depending on projects or assignments, however, is desirable to have some sort of experience with Java and Javascript.
On a typical day, a Software Engineer starts by checking their email and voicemail to respond to time-sensitive messages from clients or upper management personnel. They review upcoming project deadlines and plan their work activities around those dates. Throughout the day, they work on coding and testing one or more software systems and collaborate with other Software Engineers to troubleshoot defects. Software Engineers also spend a portion of their day in meetings with clients or IT personnel to discuss system updates and receive additional tasks and feedback as needed.
Responsibilities:
A software engineer in the organization has the following responsibilities and duties:
- Analyze user needs, design and develop scalable software solutions, implement automated testing, and participate in code reviews. Engineers are expected to work independently on assigned modules and proactively communicate progress and blockers.
- Design, test and develop the software to meet those needs
- Recommend upgrades for existing systems and programs
- Develop separate elements of a software that work well in the program as a whole
- Ensure continued functionality of a program during maintenance and testing of software
- Document each aspect of a system or application as a reference for future upgrades and maintenance
- Revisit the development process to fix bugs or address client or consumer concerns
Qualifications:
- Proficient in Java and JavaScript, with experience in Angular or ReactJS, Spring Boot, Maven/Gradle, and Git. Exposure to automated testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Jest) is desirable.
- Experience in Java based build management tools is desirable, considering Maven or Gradle.
- Some experience in automated unit testing is also desirable.
- Some experience with source code control system such as GIT in any supporting platform as github or bitbucket.
- Well organized, good communication skills and desire to learn.
- Strong attention to detail and comfort working to commit with deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables is highly valued.
- A degree (or soon to get) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar programs
