Position Overview The Media Specialist plays a key role in capturing and sharing the story of our University of St. Thomas-Houston campus community. This entry-level position is ideal for a recent graduate with strong creative skills and a passion for photography, social media and digital storytelling. The Media Specialist will focus primarily on event and campus photography, create engaging social media content, and assist with light video production projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture high-quality photography of campus events, student life and university activities for use across digital platforms.
- Edit and organize photos to maintain a consistent visual library for marketing and communications needs.
- Develop and style for event photography at UST that resonates with the campus community.
- Develop and post creative, on-brand content for social media channels, aligned with the University's voice and strategic goals.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to brainstorm and execute creative campaigns.
- Provide support for minor video production, including filming short clips and assisting with editing.
- Assist in monitoring social media engagement and identifying opportunities for interaction.
- Maintain an understanding of current trends in higher education marketing, photography and social media.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Media, Marketing, Digital Arts or a related field (graduated within the past 1–2 years).
- Strong photography skills with knowledge of composition, lighting and editing software (Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop preferred).
- Experience managing or creating content for social media platforms (Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn).
- Basic familiarity with video production and editing (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or similar).
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple projects.
- Creative, detail-oriented and collaborative, with an eye for visual storytelling.
Preferred Skills (not required, but a plus):
- Experience working in higher education or campus organizations.
- Graphic design knowledge (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Understanding of social media analytics and insights.
- Awareness of social trends and how they relate to a university population.
- Understanding (willing to learn) a distinct Catholic voice from a unique, diverse perspective.
