JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Supervision
    • Monitor the daily duties of the BHTs
    • Review as needed the daily activities of each BHT including interactions with clients
    • Meet with unit staff bi-monthly to support and enhance daily operations
    • Monitor and review BHT therapeutic activities with clients
    • Observe that protocols for patient observation are being maintained 
    • Notifies nurse and other nursing leadership of any issues in a timely manner.
    • Plans and prepares adequately for in-services and retraining
    • Ensure proper procedures are followed in regard to client movement 
    • Review resumes
  2. Patient Care
    • Interview and interact with perspective employees
    • Train and be preceptor to new employees 
    • Meet with new employees regularly to enhance retention.
    • Meet with the new employees to provide probationary assistance
    • Initiate disciplinary actions 
    • Monitor completion of notes
    • Promote AMA Blocking techniques with BHTs to help prevent Clients from leaving the program against medical advice.
    • Serves as a consultant to other BHTs in milieu management
    • Demonstrates a supportive and instructive approach when disciplining BHTs.
  3. Documentation
    • Ensure filing of progress notes are current and complete, 
    • Monitors completion of all logs and other documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Demonstrates excellent written communication skills; information is concise, as well as thorough.
  4. Maintains Safe Environment
    • Routinely monitors cameras on all units and all shifts as needed
    • Coordinates monthly and bimonthly meetings
    • Initiates training for EKG and searches
    • Responds promptly to codes ensuring proper protocols for code response are being maintained.
    • Assists Shift Director in crisis management
    • Participate in clinical team meeting as requested
    • Recommend more effective procedures and training
    • Ensure proper procedures and protocols are followed during the admission process; specifically, the search room and the storage area 
  5. Administrative Support
    • Meet with BHT as needed to discuss work performance and plans for improvement
    • Shows initiative, seeks out opportunities to facilitate communications and procedures.
  6. Professional Development
    • Attends all mandatory training in-service training activities, as evidence by attendance records.
    • Demonstrates an application of knowledge and skill acquired in in-services to workplace.
    • Seeking training and development opportunities.
    • Keeps supervisor informed regarding any significant issue or concern regarding a BHT’s performance
    • Bring ideas for improvement to supervisor before initiating or implementing

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS                                                                 

Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another; must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions.

 

Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips.   Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly.   Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss a Hz, 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.  Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers.

 

Individuals must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role of completing administrative and clerical tasks and visually observing patients on the unit and in therapeutic activities.  While workers may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly inside.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma and minimum of 12 college credits from an accredited college or university
  • Plus 2 years of experience providing direct care in the human services/mental health field

OR

  • BA in mental health/human services (psychology, counseling, sociology, criminal justice) 
  • Plus 1 year experience providing direct care in the human services/mental health field
