We are currently seeking multiple Snow Removal Operator to join our snow teams during the 2025/2026 winter season. Experience in snow is a plus but not required. What You Will Be Doing

The Snow Removal position is responsible for clearing snow from assigned residential or commercial sites on an "as needed" basis during the winter months. Reporting locations are available in Middleton, Sun Prairie, and Downtown Madison. The primary function is to remove snow using a shovel, snow blower, plow truck, or other equipment based on skill set and availability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manual Snow Removal: Remove snow using a heavy duty equipment and other machinery as well as assist with the shoveling or snow blowing for extended periods, depending on snowfall levels.
  • Salt Application: Apply salt for several hours as required based on weather conditions.
  • Snow Placement: Ensure snow is placed appropriately, avoiding trees, shrubs, fire hydrants, and sidewalks.
  • Equipment Operation: May operate a salt truck or end loader to spread salt using a mounted hopper/spreader (experience-dependent).
  • Heavy Equipment Use: May use a pickup plow or Bobcat for snow removal (experience-dependent).
  • Site Reporting: Report to either a central location or directly to assigned job sites.
  • Supervisor Check-ins: Check in with the supervisor/Route Manager before leaving to confirm if assistance is needed elsewhere.
  • Issue Reporting: Report any concerns to the supervisor promptly.
  • Attendance: Maintain a strong attendance record, arriving on time or as directed for all snow events.
  • Time Reporting: Confirm arrival and completion times with the supervisor for accurate recording.
  • Customer Interaction: Answer customer questions about snow removal processes or direct them to the on-site supervisor as needed.
  • Communication: Collaborate effectively with the supervisor and coworkers for efficiency.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean and return equipment to designated areas after use; keep vehicles clean at all times.
  • Additional Tasks: Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor/manager.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow company safety policies and procedures at all times.

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor Environment: Work is performed outdoors during winter months.
  • Weather Exposure: Exposure to inclement weather conditions, such as rain, snow, and cold temperatures.
  • Noise Levels: The noise level is usually moderate; hearing protection is required when operating equipment with elevated noise levels.

Education, Certification, and License

  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required; 
  • License, CDL License is a plus 

Experience

  • Snow Removal: Previous experience using a shovel or snow blower for snow removal is preferred.
  • Equipment Operation: Experience operating loaders, bobcats, skid steers, or similar equipment for snow removal is required.

Specific Requirements

  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Reliable Transportation: Must have dependable transportation to and from work sites.
  • Availability: Must be available for a minimum of 6-hour shifts, either during the day or overnight; 12-24 hour availability is preferred.
  • Appropriate Attire: Must be prepared to dress appropriately for all weather conditions.
  • Reliability: Proven track record of good attendance and reliability is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Outdoor Work: Ability to work outside, sometimes in extreme weather conditions.
  • Snow Shoveling: Ability to shovel snow for extended periods.
  • Standing/Walking: Stands and walks for long periods throughout the day.
  • Lifting: Frequently lifts objects from the ground and carries or pushes/pulls weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Arm Extension: Capable of full extension of arms above the head and in front of the body.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Requires fine motor skills for handling small equipment and tools.

Job Specifications

  • Temporary Position: This is a temporary, seasonal position (November – April) with 24/7 on-call availability required.
  • Variable Hours: Work hours vary based on snow removal needs.
  • Overtime: Overtime may be necessary as workload dictates.
