Description

Job Purpose: The doula is a member of the birth center team who supports families during labor, birth and initial breastfeeding. The role is to provide culturally appropriate support, serves as role model. The doula often serves as a bridge between the mother, her family and the birth providers and works within the context of the labor and delivery during birth center stay. The doula provided both emotional and physical support to a pregnant person during labor to reduce discomfort during the birth process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. 1. Being on-call for labor support according to established schedule and abiding by on-call guidelines to ensure availability to patients requesting a doula
   2. Be available to providers to join patient when active in labor, stay throughout labor and expected to for initial two-hour postpartum period.
   3. Documents all data as appropriate and report activities on Monthly Activity Report.
   4. Support and adhere to the established policies and procedures of Birth Center.

Marginal Functions

• Maintain professional growth which includes attendance at In-services as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: 

Experience/Training: 

• Certification as a doula, completion of IMPACT expected after hire.
• Attended a minimum of 5 births in past two years or in training to do so.

Physical Demands:

• • Ability to stand, bend and stretch.
  • Ability to travel and maneuver between site locations if needed.
  • Ability to lift10 pounds
  • Ability to type for long periods of time.
