POSITION OVERVIEW FOR CONSTRUCTION LABORER
The Construction Laborer plays a vital role on large-scale commercial and industrial construction sites. This position involves performing a variety of physically demanding, hands-on tasks that support the structural, civil, and general construction phases of each project. Responsibilities may include trenching, excavation, material handling, equipment operation, and mechanical assembly—strictly limited to non-electrical work. All duties fall under the Laborer classification as defined by the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), ensuring full compliance with prevailing wage requirements. This role supports upcoming infrastructure and energy-related projects and may involve work on ground-mounted structural systems, utility trenching, concrete foundations, and demolition preparation.

- A large portion of our work involves California prevailing wage projects, which offer higher hourly rates as set by the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), exceeding standard industry pay.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR CONSTRUCTION LABORER
This role is exclusively for non-electrical, mechanical work on commercial and industrial projects.
Site Preparation & Underground Work:
- Performs manual digging and trenching for the installation of foundations and conduit runs, ensuring the proper depth and width as specified in project plans.
- Assists with the installation of underground racking foundations, sleeves, and other structural components.
- Fills and compacts trenches after conduit and structural installations are complete.
Material Handling & Logistics:
- Loading and unloading construction materials, tools, and equipment from trucks or staging areas at the job site.
- Distributing and staging materials (e.g., lumber, rebar, piping, concrete forms) in locations that directly support construction crews.
- transporting materials manually or with equipment (e.g., wheelbarrows, dollies, pallet jacks) within the active construction area to facilitate ongoing work.
- Organizing, storing, or securing materials for protection from weather or job site hazards.
- Cleaning and preparing installation materials (e.g., removing packaging, breaking down pallets, wiping down equipment).
- Assisting tradespeople by supplying necessary tools or materials to their point of use during construction activity.Removing and disposing of construction debris and unused materials during and after installation tasks.
- Organizes and maintains the laydown yard and worksites, ensuring all materials are accessible and stored safely.
Structural Assembly and Installation:
- Assembles and bolts together large-scale ground-mount racking systems, including pile-driven or ballasted foundations and steel support structures.
- Operates specific equipment for drilling, cutting, or fastening structural components.
General Support & Safety:
- Follows detailed installation plans and blueprints for positioning structures or racks.
- Assists skilled tradespersons with non-specialized tasks as directed.
- Maintains a clean and safe worksite, including daily cleanup, debris removal, and waste disposal in designated areas.
- Adheres strictly to all company and OSHA safety regulations, including trenching and excavation safety protocols.
- Wears all required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times while on the job site.
Requirements
- A valid driver’s license is required. This role involves the regular operation of company vehicles to transport tools, materials, and personnel. Driving is an essential function of the job.
- Previous experience in large-scale commercial construction, civil engineering, or industrial projects is highly desirable. Experience with renewable energy projects is a significant plus.
- Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks for long hours in all weather conditions, including lifting heavy materials (up to 50 lbs.) and working at heights or in confined spaces.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, read and interpret basic construction drawings, and operate a variety of hand and power tools safely.
- OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with the use of hand and power tools such as drills, torque wrenches, and impact drivers is essential.
- Experience with trenching and excavation safety is a plus.
- A Federal Approved Laborer Apprenticeship certificate is a plus.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
