Position Title: Building Substitute Teacher – Middle/High School
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of school administration, the Building Substitute Teacher supports the daily academic operations of the middle/high school by providing consistent classroom coverage in the absence of regular teachers. The building sub reports daily to the school and may cover various subjects and grade levels throughout the day or week. This role ensures continuity of instruction and contributes to maintaining a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Report to the assigned school every instructional day, ready to accept and fulfill teaching assignments as needed.
Follow lesson plans provided by classroom teachers or collaborate with staff to deliver appropriate instructional content.
Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, and other settings to maintain order and ensure student safety.
Manage classroom behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures.
Take attendance and maintain accurate records during coverage.
Provide feedback to the absent teacher or school administration as requested.
Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include study hall supervision, in-school suspension coverage, lunchroom duties, or support for special events.
Support school-wide initiatives and foster a positive school climate.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; degree in education or related field preferred.
Valid state substitute teaching certification or appropriate teaching license as required by the state or district.
Prior experience working with middle and/or high school students preferred.
Strong classroom management and communication skills.
Flexibility, reliability, and the ability to work collaboratively with school staff.
Work Schedule:
Full-time, school-year position aligned with the academic calendar. Reports daily to the middle/high school building.
Physical Requirements:
The position may require standing, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs, and the ability to respond quickly to student needs in a school environment.
Salary: $125 Per Day
FLSA: Non-Exempt
