Early Childhood Teacher Job Description
Reports To: Early Childhood Director/Director of Student Services
Position Purpose: To provide high-quality, developmentally appropriate instruction to preschool children ages 3–5 in an inclusive setting, supporting their social, emotional, physical, and academic growth in alignment with Nebraska’s Birth to Five Learning and Development
Standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum that fosters growth across all domains.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Learners and children with disabilities (Rule 11 LRE compliance).
- Conduct ongoing assessments using Teaching Strategies GOLD and other approved tools; use data to inform instruction.
- Establish strong partnerships with families, including conducting home visits and engaging families in their child’s learning. Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and community partners (e.g., Head Start, early intervention).
- Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment that respects cultural and linguistic diversity.
- Participate in Step Up to Quality professional development, coaching, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
- Nebraska teaching certificate with Early Childhood or Early Childhood Inclusive endorsement.
- Knowledge of Nebraska Birth to Five Learning and Development Standards and play-based learning.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and family engagement skills.
