Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Performs minor repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services for: backhoes, dozers, and other heavy equipment; trucks, small engines, trailers, etc.
- Completes brake inspections, including repairs, adjustments, and certification.
- Assist with all day-to-day maintenance goals.
- Develops skills to operate specific equipment and to identify, maintain and troubleshoot equipment: cooling system, differentials, bulk air systems, transmissions, etc.
- Utilizes vehicle computer electronic systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
- Performs service calls for emergency breakdowns, when necessary. Breakdowns may occur on the road.
- Conduct safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
- Completes required paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, accounting for repair times, purchase orders and receipts.
- Reviews and completes minor repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
- Performs maintenance related work as required.
- Operate vehicles and equipment to aid in diagnostics; pick up and deliver vehicles/equipment and parts.
- Maintains a clean and safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA standards.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks.
Physical and Environmental Factors:
- Ability to work in a shop setting with limited outdoor applications.
- Ability to work in moderately stressful situations.
- Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, carry and lift as needed.
- Ability to coordinate eye, hand, feet, and limbs in performing skilled movements.
- Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects of a minimum of 75 pounds.
- 15% field.
Education and/or Experience:
- Education: General studies with a High School Diploma or GED. Vocational or technical degree, or equivalent work experience or training.
- Work Experience: 2+ years of auto/vehicle repair and maintenance, preferred.
- Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of shop operations and maintenance and repair technology.
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license required, Class A CDL preferred.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to locate and resolve problems in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge of standard practices, equipment, and tools of the fleet equipment trade.
- Knowledge of automobile mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to work in an organized manner with good customer service skills.
- Ability to complete special and general assignments with/without supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in a diverse team environment with varying opinions, etc.
