Job Description
Lead all functions related to the processing of payroll tax and W-2 data for all TransformCo entities in the US, VI ,GU and Puerto Rico. Managed through the outsource vendor, this role has accountability for payroll tax transmissions, deposits in excess of 1 billion annually and the issuance of more than 7,400 W-2s annually.
JOB SUMMARY:
Lead all functions related to the processing of payroll, payroll tax, and W-2 data for Transformco. This role also manages data transfers to and from external vendors as well as file exchanges with PeopleSoft and ADP. The manager will lead a team of professionals with expertise in finance, payroll, and payroll tax, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all payroll operations.

Responsibilities/Skills/Experience Requirements
- Manages strategic leadership and oversight for the accurate and timely execution of payroll operations across all U.S. states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Guam, ensuring consistency, compliance, and service excellence
- Ensures application of federal, state, and local payroll regulations by establishing policies and practices that minimize organizational risk
- Directs the full payroll tax lifecycle, from data transmission through the outsource vendor to year-end balancing and W-2 production, ensuring all processes meet deadlines, audit standards, and regulatory requirements
- Develops, maintains, and enforces robust internal controls across payroll and tax processes to safeguard financial accuracy, compliance, and reporting integrity, while collaborating with internal audit and external partners as required
- Manages strategic vendor relationships with payroll tax and unemployment providers by proactively addressing compliance issues, avoiding penalties and interest, and driving initiatives to reduce unemployment-related costs
- Oversees the accuracy, timeliness, and security of all data transfers between Transformco and external vendors, including payroll, tax, and unemployment information, ensuring integration points operate without disruption
- Coordinates with cross-functional teams to plan, test, and implement PeopleSoft tax updates, year-end processes, and W-2 reporting, ensuring system accuracy and business readiness
- Leads payroll system conversion efforts, including requirements gathering, data mapping, testing, and validation, to ensure successful migration and minimal disruption to business operations
- Reconciles payroll and tax data daily, weekly, quarterly, and annually against vendor reports; oversees responses to federal, state, and local tax agency inquiries; ensures timely filing of non-vendor-supported tax returns; and resolves escalated compliance issues in partnership with external providers
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors Degree
- 5-10 years of related experience
- 18 years of age or older
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Solid payroll and payroll tax foundation with an emphasis in accounting
- Track record of success in a high volume payroll tax processing environment with a multi-FEIN and multi-state presence
- Broad understanding and ability to research and interpret payroll and payroll tax laws
- Must have experience in data conversion to new payroll system
- Strong team and leadership skills
- Ability to build and foster strong relationships with peers, vendors and other Sears departments
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities and deadlines
- High personal standards for integrity and accuracy
- 3+ years of payroll tax management positions in a large to mid-sized company
- BS in Finance or Accounting required, or equivalent in work experience

- CPP preferred
