Sunnyside Intermediate School Head Custodian
Pay: $19.25 per hour, 40 hours per week
Hours: 1st Shift (7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.)

LSC Maintenance, Grounds, Facilities and Custodial Staff interested in the position should submit a bid to Chuck Bear at the Mainteance, Facilities Center by Wednesday, October 15th. Position Function:
Under the direct supervision of the Principal, Director of Facilities, and Business Manager, the Head Custodian is responsible for overseeing custodial operations, performing general cleaning and maintenance duties, and ensuring the building and grounds are safe, clean, and operational. This position coordinates and leads custodial staff, schedules daily work assignments, monitors building systems, and assists with minor maintenance repairs as needed.
Performs related duties and general maintenance work as required.
Essential Functions:
Opens, secures, and inspects building and grounds daily to ensure proper safety and cleanliness.
Assigns, supervises, and inspects the work of custodial staff to ensure tasks are completed according to district standards.
Performs cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and disinfecting all areas of the building.
Buffs, strips, and waxes floors; cleans carpets, furniture, and windows.
Oversees maintenance of custodial supplies and equipment; submits supply orders and ensures inventory levels are maintained.
Coordinates setup and teardown for school functions, meetings, and special events.
Monitors building systems (e.g., HVAC, lighting, plumbing) and reports malfunctions or needed repairs.
Performs minor maintenance and repairs as needed, such as replacing bulbs, filters, and ceiling tiles.
Clears snow and ice from entrances and walkways and ensures safe access to the building.
Assists with groundskeeping duties including debris removal and basic landscaping.
Receives and distributes deliveries; maintains orderly storage areas.
Ensures trash and recycling are collected and properly disposed of.
Additional Duties:
Performs deep cleaning and preventative maintenance during school breaks.
Supports building administration during events, emergencies, and facility inspections.
Trains new custodial staff on cleaning standards, safety procedures, and proper equipment use.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment:
Uses and maintains hand and power tools including brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, buffers, scrubbers, wax machines, snow blowers, shovels, mowers, and other custodial and maintenance equipment.
Safety Requirements:
Follows all district safety rules, procedures, and regulations.
Ensures custodial staff comply with safety standards and proper equipment use.
Wears appropriate protective gear, including gloves and masks.
Complies with the district’s chemical hygiene program and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) requirements.
Travel Requirements:
Occasional travel between schools or to the central office may be required.

Ability to safely use ladders and lifts.
Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete work according to established schedules.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
Works in standard school and office environments.
May work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents, and biological materials.
Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
Qualifications Profile:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skills and knowledge for successful performance.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in custodial or building maintenance required, supervisory experience preferred.
Valid Indiana Driver’s License or ability to provide reliable transportation.
