Location: Toronto, ON
Pay & Schedule: $27.05/hour | Full-Time | 12-hour Continental Rotation (0700–1900 / 1900–0700)
About the Role:
Join Paladin Security as a Security Ambassador at Mount Sinai Hospital, where you will play an integral role in ensuring a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Working within the Emergency Department, you will take a proactive approach to identify and de-escalate potentially violent situations before they arise, fostering a positive safety culture across the facility.
This position is ideal for those who have a background in security, healthcare, or social services and possess excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively patrol the Emergency Department and waiting areas to identify early signs of agitation and intervene before escalation.
 - Engage respectfully with patients, visitors, and staff to alleviate anxiety and promote a positive environment.
 - Use verbal de-escalation and supportive communication techniques to diffuse tense situations.
 - Collaborate closely with hospital teams including Triage, Nursing, Mental Health, and Security staff.
 - Serve as a liaison between hospital staff and emergency responders during incidents.
 - Monitor and document activity within the emergency department, including hourly census counts.
 - Observe and report any visible health or safety concerns to clinical staff immediately.
 - Participate in multidisciplinary team briefings and contribute to patient behavior management planning.
 - Maintain awareness of available support resources and coordinate their use appropriately.
 
Training & Certification:
Successful candidates will attend mandatory 4-day, in-class certification training for MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior) and Use of Force at the Etobicoke office.
Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada full-time.
 - Valid Ontario Security License.
 - Valid First Aid & CPR – Level C (from a WSIB-approved vendor).
 - Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (two doses).
 - Immunization records: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and two-step TB skin test.
 - Education or experience in Social Service Work or a related field.
 
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
- Strong judgment and interpersonal skills to manage aggressive or inappropriate behavior.
 - Empathetic communication style in high-stress environments.
 - Knowledge of applicable legislation, including the Criminal Code of Canada.
 - Physical ability to perform the duties required in a hospital environment.
