Overview:
Cook/Deckhand
LOCATION: San Diego, CA
JOB STATUS: Part Time
TRAVEL: Approximately 8 -15 days per month offshore.
Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Cook/Deckhand to work on board R/V Acoustic Explorer. This position supports the Navy Division.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
- High School graduate or equivalent (GED) is required
- Four (4) Years of Experience as a Ship’s Cook is required
- The candidate is required to have a basic knowledge of seamanship, as well as loading procedures and ship safety.
- US. citizenship is required
- Must possess MMC with food handler endorsement.
- Must be able to pass USCG physical
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
- Merchant Mariner’s Document issued by the USCG with endorsement as Able Bodied or Ordinary Seaman
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Meal Preparation and Service: Leads and participates in the preparation and serving of meals during at-sea operations (up to 20 days). Plans the timing and sequence of food preparation to
- meet scheduled serving times. Inspects the galley and equipment for cleanliness, proper food handling, and storage. May plan or assist in planning menus and maintaining inventory of food stores and galley equipment.
- Galley Operations: Meal preparation and service, maintenance of officer quarters, and cleaning of steward department areas. Manages the receipt, issuance, and inventory of provisions and supplies. May be responsible for menu planning, maintaining records (including supply, cost control, and overtime), and requisitioning or purchasing stores and equipment. May also bake bread, rolls, cakes, pies, and pastries.
Deckhand Support:
- Assists with deck operations, including loading and unloading supplies, cargo, and gear. Supports vessel operations while at sea, performing general deckhand duties as required.
- Participate in all watch team duties to include navigational watches, anchor watch, and engine room checks and other various duties as directed by the captain.
SALARY RANGE: Estimated $27.86 USD hourly*
*depending on experience, certifications, and qualifications
