What You’ll Do

The Facilities Attendant position works outdoors in public parks managed by Audubon Nature Institute and supports a clean, maintained, and safe park experience. Routine job tasks Include picking up litter, emptying trash cans, addressing hazardous spills, cleaning restrooms, removing graffiti and stickers, leaf blowing walkways, and pressure washing hardscape. The Facilities Attendant will properly use, maintain, and secure equipment such as leaf blowers, pressure washers, and utility vehicles.

 

The position works under the supervision of the Grounds Supervisor and may be assigned work alongside volunteers and Interns. The position will support the great needs of the Park Operations department and will support the general success of the parks as assigned Including proving customer service to all park guests, supporting engagement and education, ensuring the park Is clean and free of trash, and supporting event production and recovery. 

 

Day to Day Responsibilities 

  • Check all trash cans throughout the park and empty as necessary. Bring full trash bags to the dumpster for disposal. 
  • Pick up litter throughout the park including in the lawns, along the pathways, around amenities and in landscaped areas. 
  • Follow proper safety procedures when identifying and resolving hazards including bodily fluids and medical sharps. 
  • Clean restrooms including picking up trash and emptying trash cans, sweeping and mopping the floors, and cleaning the sinks, counters, and toilets.
  • Remove or cover graffiti and remove stickers on park amenities and hardscape. 
  • Leaf blow walkways and amenities. 
  • Pressure wash hardscape including routine cleaning and spot treating identified spills.
  • Adhere to safe and proper use of tools, PPE, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Assist in group activities and special projects as needed.

What We’re Looking For

 

Must Haves:

  • Experience working outdoors. 
  • Ability to use hand tools. 
  • Ability to operate equipment such as blowers and pressure washers. 
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, ability to read and write
  • Ability to operate vehicles such as golf carts and gas-powered utility vehicles
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions 
  • Ability to engage with a diverse audience 
  • Affinity for nature and the outdoors 

 

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience in light maintenance and repairs
  • Computer literacy 

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Working 100% outdoors in the elements including hot, humid summers and cold, wet winters.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, and climbing of stairs or ladders.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
  • Manual dexterity to operate machinery or handle tools.
  • Frequent use of vision and hearing to assess surroundings and job tasks.
