Our mission at First Ascent Climbing and Fitness is to share our love of climbing, connect people through movement, and create welcoming, supportive spaces that strengthen minds, bodies, and communities. We offer indoor rock climbing, high-end fitness equipment, classes, personal training, and yoga at each of our locations. FA is seeking a proactive, friendly, and psyched individual to serve as the Hospitality Lead.  First Ascent exists to support and grow the diverse climbing community in Chicago.  As a Hospitality Lead, you are essential to our mission, ensuring that all front desk staff provide fantastic customer service and making newcomers and regulars alike feel at home in our facility.

This position reports directly to the Gym Manager.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead our team of front desk staff to provide outstanding customer service to our members and visitors

    • Responsible for Hospitality Staff Scheduling and emergency shift coverage

    • Assist in training, motivating, and evaluating Hospitality Staff and optimizing hospitality procedures

    • Monitoring Hospitality Staff performance and task completion

  • 20-30 regularly scheduled Hospitality shifts weekly. Acting as Shift Lead during all desk shifts and Manager on Duty when GM is not onsite

    • Includes peak time and weekend shifts

    • Fulfilling all aspects of the Hospitality Staff role

    • Completing administrative tasks and special projects while on desk shifts

  • Assist with maintaining all aspects of the facility including staff cleaning tasks, utilities, garbage collection, etc.

  • Retail/Consumable Ordering

    • Ordering of consumables, food and bev, and high volume retail

    • Receiving retail orders and maintaining inventory

    • Keeping a detailed and up to date consumable log

    • Maintaining and organizing the retail area

  • Gym Programming

    • Assist gym manager with recruitment, training, and scheduling Climbing Instructors for Adult Classes and Guided Sessions

  • Events

    • Work with Gym leadership team to create unique events that will appeal to your gym clientele

    • Assist gym manager with event/initiative planning and execution including: staffing large events, day of set up/take down, etc. 

  • FA Climbing and Fitness Culture

    • Ensure that the FA mission and values are communicated and implemented 

    • Work to create a community atmosphere for members and guests  


REQUIREMENTS AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2 years of customer service experience, preferably in the fitness or recreation industry

  • Experience managing a team preferred

  • Exceptional communication skills; solid computer skills

  • Enthusiasm for sharing knowledge and love of climbing and fitness

  • Friendly demeanor; Positive attitude; Flexible working style; Creative problem solving skills

  • Upstanding reputation in the Chicago climbing community
