JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Medical Administrative Specialist 2 is responsible for medical coding of encounters in the inpatient, outpatient, and occupational medicine settings. This position provides education and guidance to faculty, residents, and staff on current coding guidelines through audit feedback and practice management sessions.
Responsibilities
- Reviews, interprets, and applies evaluation and management, diagnostic, and procedural codes to support medical record documentation for accurate claims submission.
- Provides feedback to faculty and residents on documentation.
- Maintain knowledge of current coding guidelines including International Classification of Disease (ICD-10), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT).
- Reviews and confirms faculty documentation for Medicare patients in accordance with Medicare teaching guidelines.
- Provides education for faculty, residents, and staff on coding documentation and guidelines.
- Provides one-on-one training with the residents as part of the Practice Management curriculum.
- Performs coding audits and provide feedback to residents and faculty.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of coding experience or equivalent experience in an office setting; OR Associate’s Degree in lieu of experience. Active coding certification is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS.
- Knowledge of documentation requirements for inpatient and outpatient coding.
- Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office.
- Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize job responsibilities to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of athenaPractice, formerly Centricity Practice Solutions is preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
