THE JOB

We are currently seeking a Journeyman Equipment Operator to join our Vancouver Container Yard. In this role, you will be responsible for operating a variety of yard equipment, including a Manitowoc friction drum lattice boom crane, forklifts, packers, lift trucks, and other heavy machinery. You may also perform routine maintenance and assist with repairs to ensure the safe and efficient operation of company equipment and assets.

Essential Functions:

  • Places safety and environmental protection as the highest priority in performing duties and responsibilities while abiding by applicable  safety management system policies and procedures.

  •  Works with Tidewater employees, customers, contractors, vendors, and suppliers in the transfer of solid waste containers to/from barges  and trailers.

  • Maintains professional communications via radio, cell phone or other means with vessel personnel, truck drivers, contractors, and other  personnel throughout the course of daily terminal activities to direct day-to-day field operations.

  • Performs preventive maintenance and assists with repairs on all equipment at the Vancouver Container Yard as assigned.

  • Maintains a clean, safe work area which may include sweeping, organizing, and maintaining the shop and grounds areas.

THE CATCH 

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and three years’ experience operating equipment.

  • Experience with friction drum lattice boom cranes, container handlers, and preventative maintenance on automotive or diesel equipment  preferred.

  • Ability to use all personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the assigned location.

  • Ability to climb a ladder and work at various heights (up to 75 feet) and pull, push and/or lift a variety of equipment and parts requiring forces up to 70 pounds on occasion.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Work Identification Credential (TWIC) Card from the Department of Homeland Security is also required.  
  • All employment offers are contingent on the successful completion of a pre-employment physical, drug screen, criminal background check, and driving record check. 
  • Ability to travel to other job sites as required.
