Summary Objective
The Individual Giving Coordinator advances the Louisville Zoo’s fundraising strategy by soliciting individual gifts, engaging donors, and managing the donor database. Reporting to the Development Manager, this role promotes philanthropy and supports fundraising efforts across Zoo operations, programs, and events.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Manage all aspects of the Sustainer Society program, including gift solicitation, benefit fulfillment, and member cultivation.
- Develop and implement moves management plans for 75–100+ donors and prospects capable of annual gifts up to $5,000 and multi-year gifts of $25,000+.
- Serve as the Zoo’s liaison to the Friends of the Louisville Zoo Board, supporting donor cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising events.
- Identify, research, and develop strategies for donor acquisition, retention, and increased giving.
- Prepare and submit proposals and applications.
- Act as the primary contact for the Zoo’s donor software, establishing database policies, gift entry protocols, acknowledgments, and staff training.
- Oversee direct mail and biannual campaigns for operational support; assist board and staff with donor communications and portfolio development.
- Stay informed on philanthropic trends across nonprofit, government, animal welfare, and conservation sectors.
- Analyze donor data to identify trends, evaluate campaign performance, and inform future fundraising strategies.
- Draft support narratives outlining goals, fund usage, and collaborate with staff on program and event implementation.
- Plan and execute donor engagement activities to fulfill commitments and attract new donors.
- Conduct annual reviews of donor portfolios and relationships.
- Communicate the Zoo’s mission and vision effectively to donors and stakeholders.
- Leverage the donor database as a key tool for prospect development and recordkeeping.
- Recognize major donors through appropriate public and private acknowledgments.
- Represent the Louisville Zoo, Zoo Foundation, Friends of the Louisville Zoo, and Louisville Metro Government at Zoo and community events.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Communication, English, Public Relations, or related discipline.
- Two (2) years of active solicitation experience, prospect management and donor research.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Must provide one's own source of transportation.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
