Main Function:

As a member of the Portfolio Accounting Team, the Real Estate Tax Analyst is responsible for managing property tax-related activities across the portfolio.  Key responsibilities include managing and executing all tasks associated with the lifecycle of the portfolio’s Real Estate Tax bills, including reviewing and processing received bills, identifying any missing items, analyzing changes in annual taxes, and ensuring all bills are paid accurately and timely.   

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the accurate input of data to the Company’s real estate tax database, which tracks tax bills, tax payments, and tax appeals   
  • Ensure tax bills are paid accurately and timely; analyze payments against forecasted amounts 
  • Review tax bills received for completeness and ensure accurate recording
  • Prepare monthly real estate tax cash forecast 
  • Prepare monthly workpapers and real estate tax compliance
  • Assist with quarterly budget and forecasting of real estate taxes
  • Work across various departments of the Company to complete ad hoc requests (including Property Management, Leasing, Collections and Property Accounting)
  • Work with regional office teams to prepare annual personal property tax returns
  • Research tax parcel changes and compile updated tax parcel maps 
  • Work with external tax consultants to obtain and provide data related to property valuations and appeals
  • Other tasks as assigned 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Accounting/Finance degree preferred;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with formulas & PivotTables used in compiling and comparing data
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills when researching and resolving issues;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and processes, with a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail;
  • Ability to face challenges with a proactive mindset and a solutions-oriented approach;
  • Strong organizational skills, with a proven ability to work well independently and within a team environment;
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills, ability to communicate clearly with both internal & external stakeholders;
