JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
Positions assigned to this class are responsible for supervising semi-skilled and skilled level maintenance staff in area of assignment to include planning, prioritizing and assigning work, completing performance evaluations, serving as a liaison, overseeing contract maintenance, preparing budgets, and coordinating work projects.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a supervisory level parks and grounds classification in the maintenance and operations job family that requires considerable and broad knowledge in assigned function. As a first level supervisor, assigns work to subordinates, counsels employees, resolves issues and grievances, conducts performance evaluations and provides recommendations for hiring, terminations, discipline, salary actions, etc.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.
- Supervises staff; schedules staff, provides communication from management to work unit, delegates and monitors workflow; hires, coaches, evaluates, disciplines, inspects work and develops staff for efficient operation.
- Maintains, tracks and purchases supplies for various jobs as well as the equipment of the work unit.
- Facilitates work orders for assigned staff.
- Manages and coordinates projects assigned to contracted staff.
- Tracks and makes budget recommendations; manages expenditures and purchases.
- Plans, coordinates and supervises daily operations to maintain and care for the Town’s parks, trails, open spaces, washes, and equipment.
- Manages the pesticide application program for the division to ensure Federal, state and local laws are followed; manages the PM10 program for the section.
- Develop and implement horticultural practices.
- Coordinates projects with other departments, contractors, organizations, vendors and consultants.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry)
Education and Experience:
Vocational Degree and 4 years of specialized maintenance experience that includes 2 years of supervisory or lead experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Arizona Class D driver’s license;
- Pesticide applicator license within 6 months of hire;
- Office of Pest Management Chemical Applicators License B3 or B5 within 6 months of hire;
- PM10/Dust Control Certification within 6 months of hire;
- Maintain all certifications/licenses required at job entry.
Special Requirements:
- This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances within twenty-four (24) hours of the offer.
