Assists principal as the building’s instructional leader, visiting classrooms for walkthroughs and observations to keep the improvement of the school constant.
Assists principal with development and training of staff for the conversion to a middle school model
Collaborates with the team of administrators developing, evaluating, revising, and establishing district and building goals.
Assists the principal in the coordination of state testing.
Contributes to the program of studies and scheduling process in cooperation with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, principal, coordinators, and the Assistant Superintendent.
Collaborates with content coordinators regarding their department’s staff and students.
Resolves issues and concerns of the faculty concerning individual problems.
Assigns, supervises, and mentors substitute teachers.
Utilizes Danielson Model to evaluate faculty.
With the principal, conducts monthly faculty meetings which also offer professional development to the staff.
Evaluates administrative assistants and the management of the office.
Supervises student evening/weekend functions including dances, concerts, open house, parent orientation, and student orientation.
Ensures enough staff supervision for student night activities and field trips that go beyond the school day.
Oversees school publications, including the school yearbook and newspaper which are prepared by clubs.
Holds high standards for student conduct and assigns discipline when necessary, including after-school detentions, Saturday detention, and alternate education.
Annually reviews codes of conduct for students and adjusts when necessary.
Monitors student attendance and tardiness and confers with students, parents, counselors, and teachers on severe attendance/tardiness problems and, if necessary, files report with court system.
Enforces rules and regulations for conduct of students.
Collaborates with all administrators during scheduled meetings and whenever necessary.
Meets with child study team, school counselors, student assistance counselor, nurse, anti-bullying specialist, anti-bullying coordinator, and I&RS team to discuss individual student needs and programs for referral of students.
Participates on the 504 and I&RS committees.
Manages FLEX and Strategies program (spring and summer).
Meets with PTO regularly to report on school activities, review fundraising, and coordinate needs for dances and promotion celebrations.
*John H. Walker Middle School is currently a 7-8 building, with plans to move 6th grade to the school for a September 2026 start.
