Position Overview

We are seeking a human resources generalist to own the development of our company’s people operations function. The role will also contribute to and support recruiting, payroll, benefits, compliance, and employee engagement activities, as well as helping to ensure our processes scale. This role requires hands-on execution in a dynamic, high-growth environment.

The candidate must be a highly effective communicator, with a strong understanding of HR operations and compliance, but also comfortable working directly with managers, employees, and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is curious and a fast learner, unintimidated by building new processes from scratch and going deep into the details of people operations in a rapidly scaling organization.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Serve as a thought partner to managers on employee relations, team growth, and talent management issues.
  • Respond to candidate and employee inquiries regarding policies, systems, payroll, and benefits.
  • Support company-wide employee engagement initiatives, including surveys and events.

Recruiting

  • Manage the full recruiting coordination process: posting roles, scheduling interviews, coordinating candidate experience, and managing applicant tracking systems.
  • Partner with managers to define interview plans and support hiring decisions.
  • Manage external job posting sites and recruiting agency relationships.

HR Operations and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal employment laws.
  • Support HRIS administration (e.g., Rippling), maintaining accurate records and generating reports.
  • Manage employment verifications, I-9 compliance, and onboarding/offboarding processes.
  • Partner with finance to support payroll and compensation adjustments.

Benefits Administration

  • Serve as the point of contact for benefits vendors, renewals, and employee enrollment.
  • Support open enrollment, employee questions, and coordination with our benefits broker.

Culture and Events

  • Organize employee events, open houses, and engagement activities.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Other Responsibilities

  • Partner with leadership on HR projects as the organization grows.
  • Take on additional duties as assigned in line with the evolving needs of the business.

Qualifications

  • 3 – 5 years of HR or recruiting coordination experience, preferably in technology, biotech, or life sciences.
  • Experience with payroll and benefits administration preferred.
  • Comfortable selecting and implementing HR tools and systems.
  • High level of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a track record of building trusted internal relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Location: San Diego, CA
Salary range: $110,000 - $135,000
