The Electrician I/II is responsible for electrical repair, maintenance and installation within Kenai Peninsula Borough buildings and property lines beginning at the secondary side of the transformer.

Position Duties

High school diploma or GED; a State of Alaska Journeyman's Electrical License (Certificate of Fitness); Five years’ experience in electrical construction and/or maintenance; working knowledge of state and federal fire codes, and a valid Alaska driver's license. 


Electrician II:  Meets minimum qualifications for Electrician I; Works independently on a daily basis; can demonstrate sufficient knowledge of KPB facilities and internal processes, or has a current State of Alaska Electrical Administrators License.

Minimum Qualifications

1.  Repairs, installs, maintains, and troubleshoots electrical devices, apparatuses, equipment and other electrical installations for new construction and existing facilities.
2. Work must meet all specifications and comply with strict code compliance and regulations.  Reports all code non-compliances to Lead and work with Lead to initiate plan for compliance.
3. Installs, maintains and repairs transformers, VFD’s, generators, panelboards, branch circuit wiring, transfer switches and motors including those used in elevators, manlifts and wheelchair lifts.
4. Read and interpret blue prints to ensure accurate installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical systems.
5. Performs routine preventive maintenance on electrical systems including inspections and cleaning.
6. Coordinates purchasing with Lead and/or appropriate personnel.
7. Ensures the functionality and upkeep of generators and automatic transfer switches.
8. Measure, analyze and troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems using test meters and other diagnostic equipment.

Electrician II: 
1.  May estimate material and labor requirements.
Other Functions:
1. May install, maintain, and repair P.A. systems, clocks, televisions, scoreboards, computer and theater sound and lighting systems
2. Performs general maintenance duties as required.
3. Other related duties as assigned.

Other Qualifications

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers dexterously to operate tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate orally.  This position may require flying in small aircraft and being away from home overnight.   Must routinely work off extension ladders, scaffolding, man-lift and bucket truck at heights up to 50 feet. Vision abilities required.  Sitting is required occasionally.  The employee must frequently transport up to 50 pounds and occasionally transport up to 100 pounds.  This position may require flying in small aircraft and being away from home overnight Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
