Position Summary:
Under direct supervision the Driver delivers meals to eligible homebound participants in Carson Colony, Dresslerville, Stewart, and Woodfords Communities. Transports seniors as needed to the Senior Center for meals, social interaction, cultural activities and other locations. This position will also perform light maintenance duties. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Packs meals in clean, thermal, approved, transport containers and delivers to eligible homebound participants within the Washoe Tribal service area.
· Provides safe, reliable and efficient transportation to seniors; assists frail/disabled, as necessary, in boarding, fastening seat belts and disembarking the vehicle.
· Maintains vehicle cleanliness, prepares accident and incident reports as necessary and enforces all established onboard vehicle procedures.
· Assists employees and Senior Center participants as requested.
· Inspects vehicles before driving to include gas, oil, water, brake and transmission levels, to ensure safety of operation.
· Performs routine safety checks on vehicles to include operable brake lights, turn signals, tire pressure, first aid kit, and emergency road kit.
· Checks the condition on all operating parts of vehicles, to include tires, lights, brakes, windshield wipers, etc.
· Reports needed vehicle repairs.
· Maintains accurate documentation related to mileage, consumption of gas, oil, and other service-related products.
· Prepare vehicle reports as required.
· Assists seniors in securing and delivering medication, lawn care, splitting and stacking wood, shoveling snow off walkways and porches, and cleaning stove pipes.
· Cleans and stocks bathrooms.
· Washes inside and outside windows.
· Waters indoor and outdoor plantings, irrigates and weeds senior garden.
· Strips, seals and waxes floors.
· Organizes dining area for potluck lunches.
· Cooperate and coordinate with other staff members.
· Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or GED plus two years experience driving or transporting and must have a good driving record.
· Must possess and maintain a valid California or Nevada driver’s license and must be able to be insured by the Tribe’s Driving Policy.
· Must be able to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification within six months of employment; and must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
· Preference will be given to Qualified Native American Indians.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
· Knowledge of traditional forms of government and tribal customs and traditions.
· Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
· Knowledge of rules of the road and road signage.
· Knowledge of driver and passenger service regulations.
· Knowledge or experience in working with Washoe elders and the ability to meet with them on a personal and helpful basis.
· Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence.
· Ability to use a variety of hand tools in performing minor maintenance on assigned vehicles.
· Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.
· Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
· Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.

· Ability to comply with Washoe Tribe in-service training for: Defensive Driving, Substance Abuse Prevention, CPR/First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens.
· Ability to record units of service for AoA Title VI and Senior Center reporting, i.e., meals delivered, transportation provided, chores, information/referral, shopping and homemaking.
· Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles may occur, and exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts and mists may occur. Prolonged sitting while driving is a daily occurrence. Evening, weekend, and/or holiday work may be required. Travel within and outside of the local area is required. Additional travel outside of the local area may be required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California requires a background check of each new hire for employment purposes. Therefore, all conditionally offered positions will be subject to the following:

- Obtain or possess a valid driver’s license for either the state of Nevada or California within 30 days
- Must be insurable under the Washoe Tribe’s driving policy
