The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking applicants for a full-time Sworn Deputy to assist in the Patrol Division. Under occasional supervision, an employee in this position performs a variety of general law enforcement work for Alamance County in one of the major divisions of the Sheriff’s Office including uniformed patrol, civil courts, and criminal investigations. After becoming familiar with duties and responsibilities, the employee is expected to always display actions that demonstrate protection of lives, property, and the rights of citizens within Alamance County.

Position Duties

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Standard computer skills or possess the ability to learn.
• Obtain and maintain certifications applicable for the position. 
• Reports to duty on time and has regular attendance.
• Exercises rational judgement.
• Protects the lives, property, and rights of the citizens within Alamance County.
• Maintaining the ethics and integrity of the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office.
• Making sure proper law enforcement procedures are followed, including procedures in the event of an emergency.
• Maintains the confidence and trust of peers, superiors, and the public.
• Excellent communication skills and possess the ability to work well with others.
• Cooperates with law enforcement officials from other local, state and federal agencies.
• Possess the ability to adjust to a fast-paced environment.
• Uses discretion effectively to determine a proper course of action consistent with the department’s mission and values.
• Engage with and greet citizens in a professional manner.
• Provide protective escorts and maintain order at public gatherings and events.
• Educate the public and represent the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office at demonstrations and community events.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience:
Minimum Qualifications: 
• Must be at least 20 years of age. 
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
• Must be able to successfully pass the following: Oral Interview, Background Check, Polygraph Examination, Psychological Evaluation and Drug Screening. 
• Currently certified as a North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer (successfully passed NC Basic Law Enforcement Training-BLET).

Preferred Qualifications
• At least 3 years of law enforcement experience or patrol experience.
• Ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and on-call hours.

Computer Skills: Basic Knowledge in MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

Work Schedule: This is an FLSA non-exempt position. A Deputy is subject to 12-hour shifts, including holidays and weekends, and is required to wear a uniform. The Alamance County Sheriff's Office has two permanent days shifts (6am-6pm) and two permanent night shifts (6pm-6am) within the Patrol Division. Shift assignments will be determined by the Patrol Administration. This position also includes an additional $4,000-dollar shift stipend for working the 12-hour shift.
