In this position, you will play a critical role in supporting spacecraft assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) by preparing, organizing, and delivering highly accurate hardware kits. This position requires advanced knowledge of aerospace material handling practices, strong ERP/MRP system skills, and the ability to work independently in cleanroom and controlled environments. The Senior Specialist serves as a subject matter expert for kitting processes, mentors junior staff, and drives process improvements to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with aerospace standards.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the preparation, verification, and delivery of hardware kits for flight and non-flight space systems in accordance with engineering drawings, work orders, and bills of material (BOMs).
  • Independently interpret and resolve complex documentation or material discrepancies, escalating issues as needed.
  • Ensure all kitted hardware meets strict contamination control, FOD, and ESD standards.
  • Maintain traceability of materials by accurately recording lot/batch numbers, certifications, and part information in ERP/MRP systems.
  • Conduct cycle counts, reconcile inventory variances, and participate in audits to uphold material accuracy.
  • Mentor and train junior Kitting Specialists on procedures, best practices, and aerospace compliance requirements.
  • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives to increase accuracy, reduce cycle time, and improve material flow.
  • Uphold safety, security, and aerospace quality standards (AS9100, NASA, DoD) in all material handling activities.


  • JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or technical training preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in kitting, materials handling, or production support (aerospace or defense industry strongly preferred).
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Deltek Costpoint, Oracle, or similar).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret BOMs, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision in high-stakes environments.
  • Experience working in cleanroom or controlled environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of ESD, FOD, and contamination control practices.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work in physically active environments.


  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience supporting spaceflight hardware programs.
  • Certification in forklift or material handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with Lean/5S, continuous improvement, and process optimization.
  • Proven leadership in mentoring, training, or leading support staff.
