The Bottling Operations & Maintenance Lead is responsible for overseeing daily bottling line operations while coordinating and performing equipment maintenance activities to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable production. This role provides leadership and guidance to bottling operators and mechanics, ensuring that production goals, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met. The Lead works closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to drive continuous improvement, minimize downtime, and maintain a high-performance bottling operation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations Leadership:
- Lead bottling line operators and mechanics to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production.
- Coordinate daily schedules, assignments, and line changeovers to meet production demands.
- Monitor line performance, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and implement improvements to maximize efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation standards, and food safety requirements.
- Partner with Quality Control to ensure fill levels, labeling, packaging, and finished product meet company standards.
Maintenance Leadership:
- Lead, perform, and coordinate line changeovers, preventive maintenance (PMs), troubleshooting, and repairs on bottling equipment.
- Provide technical support and guidance to mechanics and operators during breakdowns and equipment adjustments.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, downtime, and completed work.
- Assist in planning and executing equipment rebuilds, upgrades, and installations.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager and Production Manager to prioritize and schedule repairs.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, and hot work procedures.
- Conduct safety checks, audits, and toolbox talks with the team.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, addressing hazards promptly.
- Promote a strong safety culture by modeling safe work practices and holding team members accountable.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, food safety, and quality standards (e.g., OSHA, Cal/OSHA, BRC, FSMA, etc.)
Leadership & Continuous Improvement:
- Train, mentor, and coach team members to develop and improve skills and knowledge of bottling operations and equipment, and build cross-functional capability.
- Provide feedback on employee performance and assist in skill development planning.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing downtime, improving quality, and increasing throughput.
- Communicate effectively across departments to ensure alignment on goals, priorities, and timeline
- Enforce company policies, work rules, and safety requirements consistently and fairly.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:

- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school training preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in bottling, packaging, or manufacturing operations (wine, beverage, or food industry preferred).
- Mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in troubleshooting and repairing production equipment.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and SOPs.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is mainly performed in a bottling warehouse environment or cellar where temperatures are moderate and noise levels are moderate
- Floors may be wet and slippery; proper footwear is required
