We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated student to join our Engineering Design and Drafting group within our Community Development team for a 16-month civil engineering internship.
In this role, you will contribute to a multi-disciplinary team on the design and delivery of land development projects for our clients located in the Greater Calgary Region. These rewarding projects will provide you an opportunity to learn and expand your engineering skills and gain valuable work experience in the land development industry. Your Key Responsibilities
Land development is a complex endeavor that requires understanding of multiple engineering, urban planning, landscape architecture and construction disciplines. It involves bringing the best ideas from each discipline and weaving them together to create great communities for our clients and for future residents. The details of the plans and designs must be supported by the local municipalities approving authority and working closely with their representatives is instrumental in the efficient advancement of the design and construction process.
We are seeking team members who are motivated to learn how to best maneuver in this exciting environment. The responsibilities listed below are both broad ranging and are an excellent opportunity to increase your technical understanding.
As a Civil Engineering Intern, your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Acting as an on-site observer for active construction projects. Duties include:
- Interacting with contractors, surveyors, and City of Calgary inspectors
- Cross-referencing engineering drawings to surveyor gradesheets and contractor product
- Communicating on-site issues to the office and assist with problem solving
- Assisting designers throughout various stages of drawing production. Duties include:
- Sound attenuation analysis studies
- Earthworks cut/fill analysis
- Erosion and sediment control reports
- Design and review support of sanitary, storm and water networks
- Shallow utility coordination
- Survey packages
- Additional duties may include:
- Using AutoCAD Civil 3D to prepare figures and to complete design tasks
- Drafting emails, letters, memos, and technical reports
- Understanding and implementing Stantec’s policies, framework, and safety culture
Qualifications

- A strong dedication to continuous improvement and professional development
- Willingness to learn skills in the Microsoft Office suite and relevant design software, which includes AutoCAD Civil 3D, PCSWMM, and BlueBeam Revu.
Education and Experience
- Actively progressing towards a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with at least three years of education complete by May 1, 2026.
- Require valid Class 5 drivers permit.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
