As the EH&S Manager at Evonik’s Havre de Grace, MD site, you'll serve as the driving force behind health, safety, environmental, and quality initiatives while supporting site facilities. This is a high-impact role with visibility across the site and the organization that would be ideal for a collaborative leader who thrives in dynamic environments and is motivated by both challenge and change.

You'll begin by supporting our entire site, including production, labs, pilot plant, and office spaces, and help lead us through an exciting transition, as our production plant winds down in June 2026 and we shift focus to R&D and office operations. Your work will play a pivotal role in maintaining a safe, productive, and innovation-forward culture.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As EH&S Manager, you’ll take ownership of site-wide safety, health, and environmental programs, while serving as a key liaison across functions. Responsibilities include:

• Oversee all ESHQ (Environmental, Safety, Health, Quality) activities for the site, including the plant, pilot plant, and Office & Technology (O&T) building

• Lead site audits, trainings, inspections, and ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, stormwater, and other key regulations

• Chair the site’s ESHQ committee and collaborate with internal and external partners (contractors, regulators, vendors)

• Manage environmental permits, regulatory reporting, and contractor safety programs

• Take on facilities management duties for non-production areas including infrastructure, HVAC, pest control, janitorial services, and building repairs

• Coordinate responses to infrastructure issues, acting as the go-to resource for day-to-day and preventative facilities needs

• Support site transition planning as operations shift to a research-focused model

• Cultivate a positive, team-oriented safety culture by leading with influence, trust, and clarity

REQUIREMENTS

Evonik welcomes individuals from all backgrounds and experiences. The ideal candidate is a confident communicator, self-motivated, and eager to build trust across teams. We're looking for someone who brings:

• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred

• 5+ years of EH&S experience in plant, lab, R&D, or similar industrial environments

• In-depth knowledge of OSHA, DOT, stormwater, ISO 9001, and RC 14001 compliance

• Experience coordinating with external contractors and facilities vendors

• Ability to manage shifting responsibilities independently, with exceptional organization and time management skills

• A personable, proactive presence with the ability to engage across all levels (from plant operators to VP-level leaders)

• Comfort with change, and the prospect of having to wear multiple hats, especially during the site's transition

• A calm, diplomatic communication style, able to influence behavior while maintaining strong relationships

• Schedule: Monday - Friday, flexible start between 7 AM to 8 AM; end time typically between 4PM to 5 PM
