JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean environment in which to learn, play, and develop. Custodians working during the day shifts will also be responsible for helping students, parents, and staff by assisting in the day-to-day functions of the building. Custodians working the PM or floating shifts will also provide building supervision for all groups using the building after school hours.

Custodial/school custodial experience is strongly preferred

HOURS PER DAY/WEEK: 8 hours daily/ 40 hours per week
SALARY: $15.71-$24.90/hourly based on experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engage in custodial duties, including but not limited to, mopping, sweeping, floor stripping and waxing, carpet cleaning, restroom cleaning, filter changes, light furniture repair and assembly/adjustment, minor painting, trash removal, graffiti removal, daily and special event setups, opening designated areas for after-school groups or activities and ensuring the area is cleaned and secured after the event (PM/Floating shift)
- Unload deliveries from vehicles and transport packages; lift, stack, and move furniture throughout the buildings
- Transport district property between buildings as needed
- Respond to radio calls from the office staff and monitor the work ticket system for custodial work orders
- Open, unlock, and secure the school buildings, classrooms, and designated areas for staff and provide access to buildings for approved groups as needed
- Maintain security of the school buildings, both internally and externally, reporting any concerns to the supervisor
- Monitor all lighting (interior and exterior), and replacing lamps as needed, or write a maintenance request if assistance is needed
- Assisting in the set-up and breakdown of special event equipment and cleanup afterwards throughout the district as directed
- Monitor all assigned areas for conditions that require immediate attention, i.e. plumbing problems, loss of heat or air conditioning, or any emergency situation. Respond immediately to emergency situations, and notify the maintenance supervisor as soon as possible
- Complete minor maintenance or grounds keeping tasks in any district building as directed
- Maintain availability for overtime and temporary relocation to other district sites in emergency situations, staff shortages, or cleaning projects- advanced notice will be given if at all possible
- Work alternative shifts during summer to complete the necessary annual detail cleaning
- Clear walkways of ice and snow, and apply salt as needed, and report to work to assist in snow removal and ice control as directed by the custodial manager or maintenance supervisor
- Assist with crossing guard duties during school dismissal
- Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires prolonged standing and considerable walking on level surfaces, as well as climbing up and down stairs and equipment
Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials
Ability to lift 50lbs unassisted
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to read small print
The employee must frequently bend, reach above the head, as well as forward, and use fine motor skills
Requires the full range of motion with neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, back, torso, knees, and ankles
Must maintain appropriate levels of personal hygiene and sanitation, and follow district guidelines regarding dress code
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Must work in noisy, stressful, and crowded environments, and be able to transport independently from building to building to serve the custodial needs across the district
Must work in and around chemical odors
Must work indoors and outdoors year-round
The employee must often meet deadlines and must report to duty assignments on time
The work environment includes exposure to sunlight; risk of being bitten by animals or insects; exposure to environmental allergens (grass, weeds, pollen, and trees) and occasional exposure to solvents, degreasers, pesticides, and/or herbicides
