In this role you will:
• Check the operation of low service, high service, and South Fork pumps.
• Maintain proper sludge levels in five clarifiers.
• Receive orders from the Foreman and Water Works Operator and see they are properly executed.
• Take lake level readings and operate the gates of the dam when necessary
• Perform chemical analysis to monitor clarifier softening efficiency.
• Perform janitorial duties as required
• Perform all duties of maintenance classification when required.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess strong verbal and written communication skills, a basic understanding of mathematics and chemistry, and knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma or GED with coursework in chemistry, biology, or algebra. A valid Class D Illinois Driver’s License is required. Preference will be given to candidates with plumbing or welding experience, an Illinois EPA Class C license, or coursework in waterworks operations. The role requires outdoor and shift work, with possible exposure to chlorine or ammonia gas. Candidates must also comply with the organization’s facial hair policy. Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.
