Position:
Part time role for an experienced laboratory technician with thermoset plastics and QC of fiberglass materials.
Responsibilities:
- Quality control inspection of incoming materials, in process checks and finish products.
- Testing of materials and products per established test (UL, ASTM, etc..) specifications or internal test methods.
- Documenting and achieving all test reports or relative QC documentation in a comprehensive and organized manner both electronically and hard copies.
- Archiving benchmark materials and samples for historical or QC purposes.
- Keep laboratory area and all work areas safe, clean, and organized with all materials properly labeled and stored.
- Incoming inspection of raw materials to company specifications with appropriate documentation and approvals.
- Environmental and safety monitoring and recording as required by agencies such as IDEM, OSHA, and all Thor, Airxcel and Vixen company policies.
Qualifications:
- Technical Training or Degree in thermoset plastics with minimum of 5 years’ experience.
- CTT Certification (Composites Technician Training via ACMA)
- Proven track record of successful work experience.
- Experience with Unsaturated Polyester and Vinylester Thermoset Systems.
- Technically savvy – ability to problem solving and trouble shoot product and production issues.
- Hands on Experience with laboratory testing (destructive and non-destructive) raw materials, including but not limited to; DSC, mechanical testing (Flexural/Tensile), Gel Times, Viscosity Checks, thermal and mechanical properties and other chemical and physical property testing.
- Experience with Fiberglass reinforcements and associated processing methods.
- Knowledge and experience with solvent, water base and UV cured coating systems.
- Knowledge of solvent and water based adhesive systems.
- Experience with conducting and managing Quality Control systems for incoming, in process and finished products.
- Knowledge of laboratory and product testing using standard industry test equipment.
- Capable of maintaining QC and Laboratory testing documentation.
- Strong communication skills in both written and oral.
- Must be able to work hands on in a production environment.
- Capable of working with minimal direction in both team and individual roles.
- Computer Knowledge – Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other common Professional and Engineering software programs.
Training on specific test equipment and methods will be provided.
