The scope of this contract position includes helping The Phoenix expand its presence in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. With support from a multi-year grant, our goal is to grow from 56 new members in 2024 to 300 new members during the first year of expansion (July 2025 – June 2026). This contractor will play a vital role in driving program growth through community engagement, volunteer coordination, and strategic partnerships.

 

CONTRACT SCOPE

•    Recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers to lead and sustain Phoenix programming
•    Provide regular communication and recognition to strengthen volunteer engagement and retention
•    Build and maintain relationships with local partners (gyms, recovery centers, recreation programs, etc.)
•    Collaborate with partners to co-host events, cross-promote services, and refer new members
•    Help launch and sustain weekly offerings such as bowling, pickleball, and seasonal activities (e.g., Ski Free Sundays)
•    Lead Phoenix events as needed, ensuring alignment with The Phoenix’s ethos and guidelines
•    Assist with scheduling, logistics, and event communications
•    Coordinate with Phoenix Marketing and Research teams on promotion, data collection, and evaluation

 

QUALIFICATIONS

•    Experience in volunteer coordination, community organizing, or program support
•    Strong communication and relationship-building skills
•    Comfort with facilitating group activities and events
•    Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet project goals
•    Familiarity with tracking outcomes and documenting program activities

•    Experience developing partnerships with nonprofits, gyms, or community groups
•    Lived experience as a peer in recovery
•    Desire to apply anti-racism and anti-oppression principles and practices to your contract work

 

CONTRACT TERMS

•    Number of hours: Up to 20 hours/week
•    Location: Steamboat Springs, CO (Remote/Field-Based Hybrid)
•    Schedule: Flexible, includes some evenings/weekends for events
•    Contract period: October 2025 – June 2026

The Phoenix's mission is to build a sober active community that fuels resilience and harnesses the transformational power of connection so that together we rise, recover, and live. Through activities such as CrossFit, book clubs, rock climbing, art socials, yoga, and meditation, participants build confidence, self-respect, and community. The Phoenix offers free programs, both in person and online, for anyone with 48 hours of sobriety. Since 2006, we have served hundreds of thousands of individuals with the help of thousands of volunteers across the country.
